The Relationship between the Use of Non-Verbal Information in Communication and Student Connectedness and Engagement in Online Design Education

The COVID-19 pandemic poses a threat to the sustainability of higher education. Connectedness and engagement, two characteristics crucial design education, have weakened significantly in online courses. However, limited research has been conducted on education than STEM fields. Based dual coding theory, purpose this study was use non-verbal tools enhance student connectedness engagement class communication. In quasi-experiment, 122 students from Chinese university were questioned analyzed. They randomly assigned four different teaching situations effectiveness tested: emoticons shared whiteboards. ANOVA revealed positive correlation between information communication students. Moreover, group who used plentiful personified-form gave feedback reported stronger sense engagement. whiteboard group’s data did not differ control group, unlike discipline. To better develop we provide recommendations for online-education software method instruction.
